Electronic
prescribing.

Spriggan Health lets a clinician write a prescription inside the patient's chart and send it electronically to the pharmacy the patient chooses. This page describes how that works, who it is for, and how prescriptions reach pharmacies.
01 Who uses it
Spriggan Health is used by outpatient medical practices in the United States — primary care, urgent care and small specialty clinics — and by the licensed prescribers and clinical staff who work in them. It is not a consumer product, and it is not sold to patients.
Clinics subscribe to the platform. We charge the practice a subscription fee for the software. We are not paid by pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers, drug manufacturers or wholesalers, and we take no fee that varies with what is prescribed or where it is dispensed.
02 Why the platform includes prescribing
Clinicians using Spriggan Health already document a visit, review the patient's medication list, and handle refill requests that arrive by phone and fax. Prescribing sits in the middle of that work. Sending a prescription from somewhere else means re-entering the patient, the drug and the pharmacy into a second system, which is slow and introduces transcription errors.
Electronic prescribing in Spriggan Health covers:
- New prescriptions written during or after a visit
- Renewal and refill requests received from a pharmacy, answered from the chart
- Change requests from a pharmacy, including therapeutic interchange and clarification
- Cancellation of a prescription already sent
- Medication history and prescription benefit information, so the clinician can see what a patient is already taking and what their plan covers
03 How prescriptions reach pharmacies
Spriggan Health does not connect directly to pharmacies, and does not itself hold Surescripts network certification. Prescriptions are transmitted over the Surescripts network through a certified e-prescribing partner, whose prescribing module is embedded in our platform. We name that partner to clinics during onboarding, and to reviewers on request.
We have no commercial relationship with any pharmacy, pharmacy chain, pharmacy benefit manager, drug manufacturer, wholesaler or distributor. No pharmacy pays to appear in our platform, and no manufacturer pays for a medication to be shown, ranked or suggested.
04 Prescriber choice and patient choice
The prescriber chooses the medication. Drug selection is made by the licensed clinician from the full drug database available through the prescribing module. The platform does not restrict the clinician to a subset of medications, does not pre-select a product, and does not steer the choice toward any manufacturer or brand. Where the platform surfaces information alongside a medication — formulary status, plan coverage, cost to the patient, interaction and allergy warnings — it is presented so the clinician can weigh it, and it never replaces the clinician's judgement or limits what can be prescribed.
The patient chooses the pharmacy. The pharmacy a prescription is sent to is the patient's choice. It is recorded as the patient's preferred pharmacy and can be changed by the patient at any time, for any prescription. Pharmacy search is open: results are not filtered to favour any pharmacy or chain, mail order and retail are both available, and a search by city, state or ZIP code returns pharmacies of every type unless the person searching deliberately narrows it.
Neither choice is made by Spriggan Health, and neither is influenced by any payment to us.
05 Controlled substances
Prescribing a controlled substance requires more than an ordinary prescription, and the platform enforces it. A prescriber must complete identity proofing against a credit bureau, hold a valid DEA registration, and enrol in two-factor authentication. Each controlled-substance prescription is then signed with a PIN plus a one-time code from the prescriber's own phone.
Those credentials belong to the individual prescriber. They cannot be delegated to staff, and no one else can sign on a prescriber's behalf.
06 Privacy and security
Prescribing data is protected health information and is handled under the same terms as the rest of the platform. We operate under a Business Associate Agreement with each clinic, transmit data in transit and at rest under encryption, and restrict access to the clinic's own authorised users.
See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for the full detail, or write to support@spriggan.ai to request a BAA.
07 Questions
Clinics evaluating the platform can request a demonstration, which includes a live walkthrough of the prescribing workflow. General questions go to support@spriggan.ai.
